Broad Peak Expedition
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Broad Peak Expedition by Himalayan Global Expedition to Broad Peak in Kangri which is the 12th highest peak. It stands tall at an altitude of 8047m. Also known as Falchan Kangri, this mountain is located along the western Baltoro glacier between K2 and Gasherbrum IV in the Karakoram Range in Northeastern Pakistan.
British explorer W.M. Conway named this mountain in 1892 after the similarly named peak in the Alps known as Breithorn. Broad Peak is regarded as the easiest 8000m peak to climb in Pakistan. Most of the climbers use Broad Peak as an acclimatizing mountain for K2. The route from Broad Peak base camp to K2 base camp is just around one and a half hours away. The mountain has several prominent summits like Broad Peak (8,047m), Rocky Summit (8,028m), Broad Peak Central (8,011m), Broad Peak North (7,550) and Kharut Kangri (6,942m).
Broad Peak Expedition: The Climb
Three camps are set up above base camp with the final at about 6,950m from the base of the summit pyramid. From here the views of the Karakoram range is surprisingly fantastic.
Austrian team led by Marcus Schmuck and his team including Fritz Wintersteller, Kurt Diemberger, and Hermann Buhl made the first ascent of Broad Peak on June 9, 1957. They climbed Broad Peak without using Oxygen.
