Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Churen Himal Expedition to this 7000m high mountain on the Dhaulagiri range is in the western part of Nepal. The Dhaulagiri range locates consists of Dhaulagiri II, III, V, IV, Junction Peak, Churen East, Central and West, Putha Hiunchuli and Hiunchuli Patan. Out of 3 major peaks of Churen Himal- Central (7,385m), Eastern (7,371m) and Western are prominent. But, only Churen Himal East (7,371m) is open for commercial climbing. To climb Churen Himal East is not so easy technically; as we require two high camps before scaling the summit.
Churen Himal Expedition: The climb
To climb Churen Himal, we begin our journey into the Dhorpatan hills passing through several ethnic villages, rivers and glacial streams, lake, and Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve. The expedition takes you into the remote area in the west of Nepal where very few foreigners have reached.
From here, travelling along the river banks of Kapekhola, we reach the base camp in approx. 4 hrs. The Base Camp is located at an altitude of 4800m. Climbing Churen Himal is not as easy, and we need at least two high camps before we summit. Along the route to the east, we can see Dhaulagiri 1-5 and Putha Hiunchuli to the west. High peak sleeping bags and resourceful equipment are necessary.
