Dhampus Peak Climbing
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Dhampus Peak Climbing (6012m) is one of the easy and popular peaks for climbing in Nepal. This peak is also known by Thapa peak and located northeast of the Dhaulagiri massif. It offers mixed cultural experience and the stunning views of various mountain peaks of the Annapurna region. Though it is a non-technical peak, one should be physically fit and have some peak climbing experience to climb and summit Dhampus peak.
Dhampus Peak Climbing route
The normal route begins at Nayapul after we drive from Pokhara. Then, we follow the west ridge passing through Tikhedhunga - Ghorepani - Tatopani - Kalopani - Marpha - Yak Kharka & finally summit the Dhampus peak. This ridge also adjoins the Dhampus Pass (5200m). The High Camp for the peak is setup from where climbers attempt for the summit. Scaling the summit depends on how fast the climbers can acclimatize at higher altitudes. It takes about one and a half week to climb Dhampus Peak. Autumn & spring seasons are the best time for climbing.
If you want to gain experience or get into mountaineering, this is the peak to go for a well. This is also a peak where a few climbers venture to. The use of crampons depends on snow conditions. However, experience in walking on snow/ice is advisable.
