Dhaulagiri among Rhododendrons
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is for you if you want to experience a short trek in Nepal. You get to experience the indigenous culture, enjoy beautiful sceneries, and visit traditional villages. It is a relatively easy and very popular trek within the Annapurna region.
This trek is highly recommended for the first-time trekkers and as well as for those who have a very short holiday in Nepal. In other words, takes a mere 7 days to complete. Poon hill, situated at the altitude of 3210 m, has the best viewpoint in the rsegion. As a result, we can see the best sunrises together with amazing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Annapurna. We also see Annapurna south, Machhapuchhapure (Fishtail), Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Barasikhar, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Hiunchuli and many other smaller peaks. Particularly the view of Machhapuchhapure (Fishtail) from Poon hill is picture-perfect.
Ghorepani Poonhill Trek: Start of an amazing Trek
The trip starts just north of Pokhara driving up to Nayapul and then the trekking trail takes you to Ghorepani. Along the trail we pass through spectacular mountain sceneries. We trek into dense rhododendron forest and deep sub-tropical valleys, occasionally visiting charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs.
While walking downhill to Pokhara, we pass through the cultural village of Ghandruk, inhabited by Gurung indigenous people.
Anyone physically fit is able to comfortably complete this trek. The best season is autumn (September- November) and spring (March-May). Because, these months the weather is pleasant, the sky is clear and the temperature is moderate. Only in the morning and evenings, one can feel a bit chilly. Although, the entire day time remains perfectly clear to enjoy the splendid views of the mountains.
