Trip Introduction:
Jor Khambe Round Trek is a completely new trek started in 2019. This trek travels through the heart of Makalu Barun National Park in Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal. As a new introduction and addition from Himalayan Global Expedition, this trek travels deep with the National Park to the twin sister peaks of Jor Khambe and emerging out near Mera Peak, ultimately reaching Lukla.
Jor Khambe Round Trek: an introductory route
Taking part in this exciting new trek is a dream come true for most adventurers. It is an experience, forever imprinted in our memories. This route takes us deep into rural Nepal, where foreigners have never stepped foot. Whichever scattered villages we come across, we never fell as outsiders. They welcome us as their own.
Travelling to Tumlingtar, a remote airstrip perched above Arun Khola is a sight to see. From here, we drive to Khandbari, the district administrative town of Sankhuwasabha and stay overnight. We drive further north to Num from where we start our trek. Along the way, we head through dense high altitude forests filled with numerous varieties of rhododendrons that mostly bloom during April – June. We trek between the forest line and the vast open fields of grass. Looking towards the north, we get to see the mountains like Makalu, Chamlang and many smaller peaks. Northeast, we see Singshala Peak along with smaller ice-capped peaks.
Heading right past the heart of Makalu-Barun National Park, we take towards west passing below Mera Peak on the way to Lukla. This is where our trek ends and we take a flight back to Kathmandu.
Throughout the entire trek, we camp out in the wild or when we get the opportunity, we stay over in villages. This is one trek that is truly the essence of adventure in the Makalu Region.
