Langtang Valley Trek
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Langtang Valley Trek takes us to "the valley of glacial masses" which is another well-known name of Langtang Valley. The valley is bordered with Tibet to the north and Helambu Valley to the northeast. Both are predominately settled by Tibetans and Tamangs who share a common religion, language, and customs.
Langtang valley is a beautiful place with the opportunity to see mesmerizing snow-capped mountains of stunning icy layers. Mount Langtang Lirung (7246 m) dwarfs the valley which is just 20 miles to the north of Kathmandu. The valley is amidst pinewood forests, serene mountain streams, and lush green slopes.
The Langtang region is very much influenced by Tibetan Buddhism culture. Along the trail, there are several ancient Buddhist monasteries built at the side of the trails. When passing through local villages we meet local Tamangs who are very friendly and hospitable.
During Langtang valley trek there is an opportunity to scale Kyanjin Ri (4900m) if interested. This is a non-technical climb that any trekker can accomplish without previous climbing experiences. From the top of Kyanjin Ri, a 360-degree mountain views look stunning.
Langtang Valley Trek: an exhilarating experience
The trek begins with an 8-hour drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi along a winding road. After entering into Langtang National Park the road drops to cross the Trisuli Khola (river). It continues onwards until we arrive at Syabru Besi, a Sherpa village where we spend the first night at a lodge. The next day our trek begins heading to the east crossing extremely diverse terrains with rice-terraces, rhododendron and fir forests in the lowlands. At higher altitudes, we see rocky landscapes with shrubs, incredible backdrops of snowy peaks, and glaciers below Mount Langtang Lirung (7,225m).
Finally, after reaching Kyanjin, we retrace our footsteps through the Langtang Valley, until we reach Syabru Besi where we will take the bus back to Kathmandu.
