Beautiful Places in Nepal

Kathmandu is both the capital of Nepal and the largest city in the country. Most of the interesting things to see in Kathmandu valley are clustered around the old part of town between the old market place and the new shopping areas along New Road. Close to this area we find the old Royal Palace popularly called Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Kumari Devi residence, Kal Bhairab, Taleju temple, Hanuman Dhoka, Stone inscription statue of King Pratap Malla etc. Driving little far off from the city center you can visit Budhanilakantha, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath , Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changunarayan.

Nagarkot is a hill resort located 32 km east of Kathmandu .Many visitors are tempted with its unrestricted view of the mountain range from Annapurna in the west to the mighty Everest in the East. It is a 30-minute drive from Bhaktapur and an hour’s drive from Kathmandu.

Historically, Nagarkot was a place for the royals of Nepal to escape the scorching heat of summer and a hectic city life. In the 60’s explorers had to struggle with the shivering winds and sleepless nights to see the stupendous sunrise and sunsets. Today, many tourists from all over world travel to Nagarkot to enjoy the picturesque rural scenery of terraced rice fields, green pastures, the sunrise and sunsets.

The other ancient trading towns of the Nepali hills have rapidly modernized, but Bandipur still retains its age -old cultural charms. Temples, shrines, holy caves and a Newari architecture that harks back to the Kathmandu Valley of olden days are the major highlights. Gorkha is the birthplace of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the rival kingdoms of Nepal in 1769, commencing a dynasty that endured until 2008; it is the location of the Gorkha Durbar, the former palace of the Shahs, which looks over Gorkha from a lofty ridge; it is where the famous Gurkha Battalion in the British Army originated; and it is where the annual Dasain festival officially begins, with a procession to Kathmandu. The town remains an important pilgrimage destination for Newars, who regard the Shahs as living incarnations of Vishnu.

Chitwan has a particularly rich flora and fauna and is home to one of the last populations of single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros and is also one of the last refuges of the Bengal Tiger. Chitwan National Park (CNP), established in 1973, is Nepal’s first National Park and also a UNESCO listed site. Located in the Southern Central Terai of Nepal, it formerly extended over the foothills, the property covers an area of 93,200 hectares, extends over four districts: Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Parsa and Makwanpur." Chitwan is a popular destination in Nepal, and within the area you can find a number of lodges in addition to several activities from rafting to jeep safaris and walking tours.

It is the birth place of Lord Buddha situated on the western Terai in Rupandehi district of Lumbini zone in Nepal. It is one of four Buddhist pilgrimage sites based on major events in the life of Gautama Buddha. Gautan Buddha was born in Lumbini Park in 623 B.C under Sal grova (Sorea robusta) on the full moon day of the sixth month of lunar calendar. As Lord Buddha was born on the full moon day of Baisakh Purnima this day is considered the most important and special day for the Buddhists. His birth, enlightenment and emancipation (nirvana) were all occurred on Baisakh Purnima and this special day is celebrated by the Buddhists all over Nepal, India and other countries. The temple dedicated to Mayadevi is the main attraction of Lumbini. Located next to the temple are the holy Phshkirini Lake and the Ashol Pillar erected by emperor Ashok of Magadh.

Mustang is a popular destination situated close to Nepal and Tibet border. Seeing very little rainfall, the land is characterized by a deserted vegetation that mostly makes up the upper part of Mustang. The lower section, however, has less dense but beautiful greenery composed of tropical alpine and rhododendron forests.

Like two sides of the same coin, each side with two different faces, Mustang has beauty in both its section that can awestruck you. The icing on the cake is the deepest Kali Gandaki Gorger that resides in Mustang. Such unique geographical structure makes Mustang an excellent spot for adventure sports. Another source of major attraction of Mustang is the Muktinath temple. It is one of the most sacred places for the Hindus and the Buddhist.

Janakpur is the birthplace of the goddess Sita and the place where she married the god Ram (Vishnu in mortal form). The city’s central temple, Janaki Mandir, is a guaranteed stop on any Hindu pilgrimage tour, though few tourists visit the area. One of the only other attractions in the city is the site of Nepal’s only railway and railhead. Located very near the Indian border, the small, holy city has a strong Indian influence.
