Pikey Danda Trek
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Pikey Danda Trek to the remote Everest region is a rewarding adventure. We cross a high pass called Lamjura-La at an elevation of 3530m. Then walk through rhododendron, pine, juniper and fir forest for most of the part. Whereas, the pastureland above 3500m remains barren without trees.
Pikey Danda Trek: the newly introduced adventure
This is a newly introduced trek into the heart of the Solu Khumbu. A region least visited by tourists. Pikey Danda Trek takes you off the beaten track through pretty Sherpa villages, local monasteries, and beautifully terraced farms. Then, to the highest point of the trek: Pikey Danda (4065m). The views from the top are stunning. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar and Shishapangma fill the skyline and you can even see as far west as the Annapurnas. In the low solu region, you will gain a real insight into the Sherpa way of life as you walk through relatively untouched villages and explore Junbesi valley.
Then we will walk down via a unique landscape to Junbesi valley. The following day you trek to Thuptenchholing Monastery (Little Tibet) where you can observe traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy. Rinpoche from Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet founded Thupten Choling Monastery in the 1960s. You can also savor local food and drink; enjoy Sherpa culture, where cultural shows are performed upon request. Then, you will continue to trek back to Junbesi and return Phaplu from where you can catch a flight for Kathmandu.
