Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Shiva Dhara Trek is a newly opened trek travelling within the Makalu-Barun National Park in Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal. Started in 2019, this is a perfect introduction to the far-east villages and wilderness. This trek is a brand new introductory endeavour and addition from Himalayan Global Expedition.
This trek is a result of massive efforts, extremely hard work and dedication. We spent months charting out the route details and obtaining permission from the government. Then we started clearing the trails, inspecting feasible villages and finally managing overall feasibility the entire trek. Finally, it is a pride moment for us to acknowledge that we are the only company offering this trekking experience.
Shiva Dhara Trek: the route
This new trek takes is deep into the Makalu-Barun National Park. Anyone taking part in this trek is fortunate enough to be among the first few to reach villages and experience raw wilderness. We, of course, take care of all the necessary arrangements so that you are within your comfort zone.
We travel to Tumlingtar, a remote airstrip sitting above Arun Khola. Then, we drive north to Khandbari, the district administrative town of Sankhuwasabha and stay overnight in a lodge. We drive further north to Num from where we start our trek. Most of the time we trek between the forest line and vast open green pastures. We do pass through villages, but we camp in the wild at nights.
Gazing north, we see the famed mountains like Mt. Makalu, Chamlang and some smaller peaks. Northeast brings us face to face with Singshala Peak along with smaller ice capped summits.
We circle clockwise into the National Park and end our trek in Khandbari.
