Upper Mustang Trek
Trip Facts
Trip Introduction:
Upper Mustang Trek takes us to Mustang also known as ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’. Mustang refers to barren landscapes and far flung remote region to the north of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Thus, this region borders Nepal with the Tibetan plateau. It is a destination forever engraved in the imaginations of trekkers. Similarly, undertaking this trek introduces us to the kind of terrain which is not encountered anywhere else in the world.
Upper Mustang Trek: what it has to offer
We start with a flight to Jomsom from Pokhara. We then, trek northwards towards our destination. Upper Mustang trek is of moderate difficulty grade. The people living in Upper Mustang still follow true Tibetan lifestyles since centuries ago. Hence, their adobe mud-made buildings look like pictures from a book of ancient history.
Travellers can explore snow-crested mountains and barren hills reaching deep into the vast Tibetan plateau. Whistling strong winds sweep over its plains and into the narrow canyons. As a result constant erosion has sculptured weird and wonderful rock formations. One can visit the fabulous walled capital of Lo Manthang which is regarded as the home of the Mustang King, beautiful temples, and monasteries.
Since it lies in the rain shadow area and it gets less rain even in the monsoon season. We have proposed 18 days itinerary for Upper Mustang starting and ending in Kathmandu. Travellers can choose a slightly longer or shorter version depending on the availability of time and budget.
